Kids on Brooms & Teens in Space
Two spin-off settings that utilize the same award winning Kids on Bikes system, set in either a science fiction (Teens in Space) or magical, fantastical setting (Kids on Brooms), while still retaining that core feeling of young protagonists exploring strange happenings and supernatural events
How its Different from other TTRPG’s
-
The game has 6 main stat categories-Fight, Flight, Grit, Brains, Brawn, and Charm. Each of these categories is then paired with one of the corresponding polyhedral dice for how capable the character is likely to be in that category.
For example if a character wanted to play a “sports team captain” type character, they might assign the D20 to "the stat “Brawn” and the D12 to “Charm” and so on. This abstraction is both charmingly simple, and yet allows for depth in character expression.
-
Narrative control shifts between the players and the Game Master. If the outcome of a player’s roll is over the difficulty threshold by a significant margin, then narrative control switches to the person who rolled that outcome. That means they get to dictate not only how their character does something but also how the world around them responds. If the outcome of a player’s roll is under the difficulty threshold by a significant margin then narrative control switches to the Game Master, or remains with the Game Master if it were not in someone else’s hands, and the Game Master may also explain how the character reacts.
-
Any dice that rolls its “top” value will “Explode” allowing the player to roll that dice again and add it to their result. There is no upper limit either. This mechanic leads to excited shouting around tables as streaks lead to intense and narratively powerful moments.
Kids on Bikes
This charming, indie developed, rules-lite, narratively driven collaborative storytelling TTRPG is extremely easy to learn and a blast to play for any and all ages.
Players begin in a small town setting playing as kids or teens navigating strange, often supernatural, events.
The game is inspired by 80s media like Stranger Things and E.T. and encourages players to work together to solve mysteries and face threats beyond their understanding.
