⚔️ Forge Your Character

You don't need a finished character. You need somewhere to start.

Maybe you already know their family, their training, what they want, and exactly why they became an adventurer. Maybe all you know is, "She's an older woman who learned magic late in life." That's enough.

Start with what you can see. We'll discover the rest together.

Start With What You Can See

These are questions, not a test. Answer a sentence. Write a page. Leave something open. "I don't know yet" is a perfectly good answer.

If you haven't found their name yet, that's fine.

If you already know it, choose it here. If you're still figuring out what this character should become, leave it open.

A personality, an image, a profession, a relationship, a contradiction, or simply a feeling is enough.

Need an idea?

Maybe she's an older woman who learned magic late in life. Maybe he was trained as a soldier but never liked being one. Maybe they're a Warlock who genuinely likes their patron. Start with whatever part already feels real.

Where Did You Come From?

Your character came from somewhere. You don't need to design an entire settlement. Give us enough that your character can remember it.

Think of this as your background rather than your entire biography.

Need an idea?

Maybe you grew up farming, worked in a temple, served in an army, learned a family trade, lived on the streets, studied among scholars, traveled with a caravan, or grew up somewhere that doesn't fit neatly into a label.

Need an idea?

Imagine you've been away for a year. You're still several miles outside town when something makes you think, I'm home. Maybe it's the smell of the sea, the old mill appearing over the hill, a particular stretch of terrible road, or the first place strangers begin recognizing your face.

You've returned home with the party after far too many trail rations. Where do you insist everyone eat or drink?

Need an idea?

An old innkeeper who remembers you. The bakery with the honey cakes. A tavern everyone argues is better than the one across town. Your grandmother's house. One person, meal, or memory is enough.

Need an idea?

A parent, sibling, old teacher, childhood friend, neighbor, former employer, priest, shopkeeper, or somebody who became family without sharing your name.

Something completely ordinary to locals that an outsider probably wouldn't know.

Need an idea?

The north road turns to mud after heavy rain. The church clock has always been five minutes slow. Farmer Edric doesn't mind if children take apples. There's a shortcut everyone uses that somehow never made it onto a map.

Your lore is gravity, not ammunition. The people and places you create aren't a list of future hostages. Telling me something matters makes it more real in the world. Its first purpose is to matter.

How Did You Become Capable?

Your background tells us where you came from. Your Path asks how you became capable of doing what your class does.

You haven't chosen a class yet, and that's completely fine. You can leave this part open and continue.

If you decide on a class now, you can choose one below and its Path questions will appear.

Why Did You Choose to Go?

You had a life. You developed your abilities. Somehow, that person ended up on the road to adventure.

There doesn't need to be a catastrophe. There does need to be a choice.

Need an idea?

Maybe your training ended and this was simply what came next. Maybe your order gave you a duty. Maybe adventuring offered knowledge, wealth, recognition, experience, or access to places you could never otherwise reach. Maybe you wanted to help people, support your family, prove yourself, see the world, or simply wondered what was beyond the edge of everything you knew.

This doesn't have to be their destiny. What matters to them at the beginning?

Need an idea?

Earn enough money to send some home. Find a teacher. See a particular place. Become respected. Learn what happened to someone. Test their abilities. Protect their companions. Find interesting work. Or simply survive long enough to decide what comes next.

You at the Table

Your character tells me something about who they are. These questions are about what sounds fun to you as a player.

Need an idea?

Holding a doorway while everyone escapes. Talking your way into somewhere you absolutely shouldn't be. Discovering forgotten magic. Landing the impossible shot. Becoming friends with an unexpected NPC. Building something nobody at the table knew could work until you tried it.

Anything Else You Can See?

If there's another piece of the character already taking shape, this is a place to put it.

Need an idea?

Appearance, clothing, favorite equipment, mannerisms, beliefs, relationships, a voice you imagine, something they always carry, a question you're still thinking about, or anything else that feels like it belongs to them.

That's Enough to Begin.

You don't need to know everything about your character yet. Neither do I.

Some answers will appear before the first session. Others might arrive ten sessions from now when your character walks into a place, meets someone, or makes a decision neither of us expected.

Those discoveries are every bit as real.

Let's see.
